Keith Mweemba is the new FAZ president
Keith Mweemba, a lawyer from Lusaka, has been chosen as the new President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), ending Andrew Kamanga’s long time in charge that lasted almost ten years. Mweemba got 45 votes during the Annual General Meeting in Kabwe on Friday, beating four other candidates in a much-anticipated election.
Kamanga, who has been in the position since 2016, received 20 votes, while Adrian Kashala, the former FAZ General Secretary, got 17 votes. Francis Hafwiti and Emmanuel Munaile didn’t get any votes at all. Mweemba will serve as president from 2025 to 2029. The election was the only thing discussed at the meeting, which was watched over by officials from FIFA, CAF, and COSAFA, led by Ahmed Harraz from FIFA.
In the race for Vice President, no one got enough votes to win outright, so there will be a runoff. Justin Mumba is in the lead with 41 votes, just ahead of Mutale N’gandu who has 40 votes. Christopher Kasale is out of the running with only one vote. Also, Col. Priscilla Katoba was confirmed as the FAZ Women’s National Representative without any competition, with support from Green Buffaloes Women FC and a second from FC MUZA.
