A 29-year-old man from Ndola has become the latest victim of a violent crime, having been shot and robbed of K120,000 by assailants last night around 21:00.

The individual, identified as Alfred Chilufya, works as a cash collector for a local company. He was attacked while at the 24/7 MTN booth located in the Front Page Kabwata area, right in the heart of Ndola’s central business district.

According to Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Pathias Siandenge, Chilufya had just finished collecting K120,000 cash from the Baluba area along Kitwe road and arrived at the booth around 21:30 to meet up with a colleague.

After counting the money at the counter, Chilufya prepared to leave, sitting on a motorbike when three armed assailants approached him. Commissioner Siandenge reported that Chilufya was shot in the left leg, leading to a fall from the motorbike.

The attackers violently stomped on his head, causing bleeding from his ears, but despite the assault, Chilufya refused to give up his bag containing the cash. In response, the criminals shot him in the right leg before grabbing the bag and fleeing the scene.

A nearby crowd attempted to intervene, but the criminals swiftly discharged a shot into the air to deter any rescue efforts and fled in a white, unregistered Toyota Mark X.

The Copperbelt Police Chief shared that Chilufya was immediately taken to Ndola Teaching Hospital for medical attention, where officers later found him in considerable pain due to the gunshot wounds on both legs.

At the scene, police recovered three empty cartridges, and a motorbike was secured and taken to Ndola Central Police Station for safekeeping. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the victim’s condition is reported to be slightly stable.
