WE MUST STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE AT WAFCON 2025 – MWEEMBA
The president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), Keith Mweemba, has encouraged the Copper Queens to pursue nothing short of victory at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco 2025.
During his address to the Copper Queens at the Edwin Imboela stadium, where the team is preparing for two significant FIFA international friendlies against Botswana and South Africa, Mweemba emphasized the importance of discipline, purpose, and unity.
“I am truly pleased to be here and to meet you all. Naturally, I will engage with you in detail at the appropriate time. I do not wish for you to feel pressured from the outset. We have faith in you, and we expect you to put in considerable effort (as) there is ample talent present,” Mweemba conveyed to the players.
“You have the complete backing of the FA President. I am also aware that some of you may be owed payments. Regardless of whether it pertains to last year or two years ago, we will ensure that those funds are disbursed.”
Nevertheless, Mweemba was quick to remind the players that financial gain should not be their primary motivation.
“Monetary compensation should not be the main driving force; I seek passion. I am a competitor. I desire passion, determination, resilience, mental fortitude, and character. A team with character can turn a game around even when down 1-0; in just five minutes, victory can be achieved, but it is not simple; it demands significant effort,” Mweemba stated.
“Maintain your fitness, consume nutritious food, and avoid unhealthy options. This is crucial. Unhealthy food will result in penalties. If you consume improper food, you violate the code of conduct. There must be consequences. Let us function as a cohesive unit. We are a team. Together, everyone achieves more. We can only attain results if we care for one another, remain united, and respect the authorities. Above all, place your trust in God.”
Mweemba reaffirmed the executive’s dedication to the Copper Queens and urged the players to represent the Zambian badge with unwavering commitment.
“As for me, I will fulfill my responsibilities, so do not disappoint me. I am a winner.
