President Hakainde Hichilema has honored the late Dora Moono Nyambe after her passing for her amazing work in education and promoting girls’ rights in Zambia.

Nyambe was a caring philanthropist and a strong supporter of vulnerable children. She sadly passed away at just 32 years old on December 25, 2025. To honor her hard work, a special ceremony took place at State House on Africa Freedom Day, May 25, 2025.

From her home in Mapapa Village in Mkushi District, Nyambe generously provided food, shelter, and education to many underprivileged kids. Her efforts became a source of hope for many, especially in rural areas struggling with poverty and social issues.

Nyambe was a strong voice against early marriages and child abuse, working tirelessly to defend the rights and future of Zambia’s youth. Her grassroots campaigns helped raise awareness about problems affecting children and empowered communities to care for and protect their young ones.

During the commemorations, President Hichilema praised Nyambe’s legacy, calling her a “beacon of light” whose influence will be felt for many years to come. He mentioned that her name is now written in the history of the nation as a symbol of bravery, kindness, and dedication to justice.

This year’s Africa Freedom Day was celebrated with the theme: “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong Quality and Relevant Learning in Africa.”

Nyambe’s lasting legacy continues to motivate everyone to take responsibility for protecting children and to strengthen education as a key part of national development.
