Lusaka City Council Urges Residents to Focus on Fire Safety This Cold Season

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) is asking residents to be extra careful to avoid fire accidents as the temperatures drop in the city.

In a public advisory released today, the local authority urged households to stay alert when heating their homes.

Residents should keep heaters at least three feet away from anything flammable, never leave them unattended, and ensure fireplaces have proper ventilation.

The council also highlighted the need for having a fire extinguisher on hand and avoiding overloading electrical sockets.

This warning comes as fire incidents have increased recently. The LCC Fire Brigade has responded to 22 fire emergencies in just the last two weeks.

The council is worried about the growing number of these incidents, which can seriously endanger lives and property.

“The safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority. We must work together to reduce fire hazards and create a safe environment for everyone during this cold season,” said Ms. Chola Mwamba, Public Relations Manager at LCC.

Residents are encouraged to report any fire emergencies or potential hazards by calling the LCC emergency line at 993 or reaching out to the nearest fire station.
