Mumbwa Constituency has officially opened the new Kanwazhiba Rural Health Center, which cost K2,168,403.86, paid for by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from the 2023 and 2024 budget.

During a speech on behalf of the Southern Province Minister, Mumbwa Member of Parliament Honourable Credo Nanjuwa, Council Chairperson Mr. Charlie Masumo stated that the opening of the Kanwazhiba Rural Health Center means that mothers in the Kanwazhiba community will no longer need to travel long distances or give birth on their way to the health facility.

The launch of this center shows our government’s dedication to improving healthcare in our area, with the goal of lowering maternal mortality by making quality healthcare services more accessible.

Mr. Masumo mentioned that water and health services are important areas where the government has invested through CDF, focusing on health education, disease prevention, and community outreach.

District Commissioner Mrs. Namukulo Hayumbu said that the health facility will assist many mothers as it will be open 24 hours a day.

Mumba Ward Councillor Moven Chasemena expressed that the facility will improve access to healthcare services and thanked the government for the progress made in his ward, along with other projects in the constituency.

Ward Development Committee Zonel Representative Mr. George Mwanayumbu expressed his gratitude to the government for completing the project, which was challenging, but with the community’s efforts and the area councillor’s support, the goal has been reached, allowing mothers to avoid walking seven kilometers to the nearest clinic.
