Gift Sialubalo, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, is urging local authorities across the nation to better utilize funds generated within their communities rather than relying solely on central government allocations for their operations and development initiatives.
Mr. Sialubalo raised concerns about some councils that continue to depend heavily on government funding, frequently reaching out to the ministry for resources, even for projects that could be funded through their own revenue streams.
During the commissioning of new guard houses, a roller compactor, and a water bowser—all funded through Chingola Municipal Council’s internal revenue—Mr. Sialubalo praised the local authority for its initiative and dedication to enhancing service delivery.
“The equipment and infrastructure we are unveiling today are vital for our mission to improve local service delivery. The guard houses will bolster council security, and the new machinery will streamline municipal operations,” he stated.
He also encouraged Chingola residents to consistently pay local levies and taxes, emphasizing that public participation in revenue generation is crucial for fostering visible and meaningful development.
In addition, Chingola Town Clerk Namukolo Kalufyanya credited the local authority’s advancements to strategic partnerships with stakeholders and strong community support.
Chingola Mayor Johnson Kangombe highlighted that the council has focused on the prudent use of its revenue, resulting in the acquisition of essential assets and enhanced working conditions for council staff.
