Management of Mansa Mall has confirmed that the shopping complex will soon be demolished after years of financial difficulties and unresolved operational challenges.

Speaking in an interview, the mall’s Operational Manager, Mr. Levin’s Situnyama, said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders, adding that running the facility had become economically unviable.

“Despite our continued efforts to address operational issues, we have suffered huge losses. We complied with both council and court directives, but new demands kept arising, each requiring more expenditure,” Situnyama explained.

The mall’s anchor tenant, Choppies Supermarket—which occupies three of the 37 shops—has also been struggling, with heavy losses caused by spoilage of perishable goods such as fruits and vegetables. Its expected exit has further undermined the mall’s sustainability.

Situnyama revealed that management engaged the local council and provincial administration from the construction phase through to operations, but no lasting solution was ever reached.

“With the current situation and the looming departure of our anchor tenant, it is no longer practical to continue. Demolition remains the only viable option,” he said.

Management has since announced that formal notices will be sent to all remaining tenants instructing them to vacate before demolition begins.
