‎Finance Minister Challenges Capital Markets to Extend Trading Time

‎Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane has called on Capital markets to engage more effectively and help drive the country’s economic growth.

‎Dr. Musokotwane says the operating hours of the stock exchange need to be addressed by exploring the possibility of extending the trading hours into a 24-hour market. He says the Government is ready to discuss with the stock exchange on identifying ways to better connect project promoters with sources of funding.

‎The Finance Minister said this during a Capital Markets Pre-budget meeting held in Lusaka today.

‎Dr. Musokotwane noted the progress made by the Government in stabilizing the economy and increasing global interest. He said the Government is focusing on consistent and strong growth to address unemployment and create business opportunities for citizens.

‎Lusaka Stock Exchange – LUSE- Acting Board Chairperson Choongo Chibawe said that there is a need to improve the market’s role in raising capital.

‎Meanwhile, a Representative from the Presidential Delivery Unit, Cuthbert Munankwenka, called for a revision of capital market modalities to facilitate participation and avoid inhibiting factors.
