A 28-Year-Old Man Sentenced to Jail for Assault
The Nchelenge Magistrate Court has imposed a six-month prison sentence with hard labor on a 28-year-old man for slapping another individual who inappropriately touched his wife’s breasts.
During the proceedings, Resident Magistrate Luckson Mbewe heard the case of Pardon Mpundu, who admitted his guilt regarding the offense of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (AOBH), as outlined in section 248 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
The incident occurred on May 1, 2025, in the Nchelenge district, where Mpundu assaulted Richard Limbikani, resulting in actual bodily harm.
State prosecutor, Kennedy Chimbali, presented the details of the case, explaining that on that day, both men were at a local bar and became embroiled in a dispute concerning Mpundu’s wife.
Mpundu expressed to the court that he felt compelled to act after Limbikani touched his wife’s breasts. “Your honor, the victim in this matter was touching my wife’s breast, which led to the altercation,” Mpundu conveyed.
In his plea for leniency, Mpundu requested the court to consider his situation, emphasizing that his wife, who is currently pregnant, would have no one to care for her if he were sentenced to prison.
