A businessman in Kitwe was shot and killed outside his home by unknown attackers.
Patrick Chongo, a 51-year-old owner of PC Logistics, was targeted in what police believe was a robbery.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Pethius Siandenge confirmed the details. Mr. Chongo was returning home with money from his daily business when the attack happened around 10 PM on May 28, 2025. As he reached his gate, assailants fired at his vehicle. A maid, who heard the gunshots, found the car running with the keys still inside, but Mr. Chongo was gone.
Police quickly arrived at the scene and discovered that Mr. Chongo had already been taken to Wusakile Mine Hospital. They found six empty cartridges and three 9mm bullets believed to be from a pistol, along with bullet holes in the driver’s side door and front bumper of the car.
At the hospital, police examined Mr. Chongo and confirmed he had two fatal gunshot wounds—one in his abdomen and another in his elbow. Commissioner Siandenge noted that the attackers stole a small bag with documents and an undisclosed amount of cash, as Mr. Chongo often carried money home from his businesses.
Authorities have taken his body to the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Police have opened a case and are actively investigating, but no arrests have been made yet.
