A man from Petauke is in the hospital after being shot.

A 42-year-old man in Chief Kalindawalo’s area of Petauke District, Eastern Province, is now at Kalindawalo General Hospital because he was shot in the leg with a gun by a Zambian man of Asian descent during a fight.

Robertson Mweemba, the Eastern Province Police Commissioner, confirmed that this happened yesterday, July 20, 2025, around 8:00 AM behind Choppies Supermarket.

The injured man, Diloni Mwale from Chimate Village, was shot by 31-year-old Manki Isahq Safakatali from Fairview Compound.

Here’s what happened: Diloni Mwale, who works at Fair Price Shop with his cousin, Mwamba Phiri, was sent to Nkosi Bakery to get some buns for breakfast.

Mr. Mweemba mentioned that when Diloni took a while to come back, his cousin Mwamba decided to go look for him.

The Police Commissioner said that Mwamba found Diloni in a fight with Manki Safakatali Isahq.

He added that Mwamba tried to break up the fight, but during that, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired four shots, hitting Diloni Mwale in the left leg.

The Police Commissioner also explained that the police quickly responded to the call, caught the suspect who was trying to run away, and found a Pietro Beretta pistol with six bullets.

He mentioned that they also found four empty bullet casings at the scene.

Diloni, who has a medical report, is currently in Kalindawalo General Hospital getting treatment, and he is said to be in stable condition.

The suspect is in police custody and will appear in court soon.

The gun and six bullets are being kept by the police as evidence.
