Board of Governors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) will elect a new President
The Board, which includes finance ministers, economy ministers, and central bank governors, will meet from 09:00 to 13:00 GMT (11:00 to 15:00 Zambian time) to select one candidate from five finalists.
Among the candidates is Zambian-born Samuel Munzele Maimbo, a skilled expert in development finance. He competes against Amadou Hott from Senegal, Sidi Ould Tah from Mauritania, Mahamat Abbas Tolli from Chad, and Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala from South Africa.
The Steering Committee of the Board of Governors officially confirmed the five candidates on January 31, 2025, and released the final list on February 21.
To win, a candidate needs at least 50.01 percent of the votes from both regional and non-regional member countries. If no one achieves this in the first round, a second round of voting will take place from 14:00 to 19:00 GMT (16:00 to 21:00 Zambian time).
We can expect the official results of the election later today, after the voting wraps up.
