Botswana President to Visit Zambia for High-Level Talks and Agricultural Show
The President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, is set to make a State Visit to Zambia from August 1st to 2nd, 2025, at the official invitation of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
This landmark visit aims to strengthen the deep-rooted diplomatic relations between Zambia and Botswana, which are founded on shared democratic ideals, mutual respect, and a common vision for regional development. The two Southern African nations are also expected to advance discussions on strategic collaboration in areas such as trade, infrastructure, and economic growth.
A major feature of the visit will be the Inaugural Session of the Zambia-Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC), scheduled for Friday, August 1st, 2025, at State House in Lusaka. The BNC, which replaces the former Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC), now serves as the top-level bilateral cooperation framework between the two countries. During the meeting, Presidents Hichilema and Boko will assess the progress of ongoing joint projects and sign several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation.
On Saturday, August 2nd, President Boko will participate in the 97th Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka, where he will be honored as the Guest of Honour.
The two countries already enjoy shared infrastructure, most notably the Kazungula Bridge — a key regional trade and transport link. Discussions between the leaders will include measures to boost the free flow of goods and services and promote deeper economic integration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Boko is expected to conclude his visit and depart Zambia after completing all official engagements.
