CHIEF KATYETYE ENDORSES GOVERNMENT’S DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURAL PRESERVATION EFFORTS IN ISOKA

ISOKA, ZAMBIA – July 27, 2025

Traditional leader Chief Katyetye of Isoka District has thrown his full support behind President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND), applauding the government’s efforts in promoting development and safeguarding Zambia’s cultural heritage in Muchinga Province.

Speaking ahead of the renowned Chizumba Nsonje Traditional Ceremony, Chief Katyetye expressed gratitude for the government’s unwavering commitment and generous contributions towards the success of the event. The government’s support included a K100,000 cash donation, five cattle, and 100 bags of mealie meal.

The chief made the remarks during a visit by a high-level delegation led by Special Assistant to the President for Politics, Mr. Levy Ngoma. The delegation also included Small and Medium Enterprise Development Minister Elias Mubanga, Muchinga Province Minister Njavwa Simutowe, and Isoka Member of Parliament Marjorie Nakaponda.

Mr. Ngoma underscored the significance of traditional ceremonies like Chizumba Nsonje, noting that they are more than cultural observances—they serve as vital platforms for national unity, cultural identity, and dialogue between the government and local communities. He assured the people of Isoka that the government remains dedicated to addressing community challenges through inclusive and sustained development.

Minister Elias Mubanga explained that President Hichilema was unable to attend the ceremony due to important national matters relating to the passing of former President Edgar Lungu. However, he emphasized that the Head of State values the Chizumba Nsonje Ceremony and holds it in high esteem.

Echoing this sentiment, Muchinga Province Minister Njavwa Simutowe reiterated the government’s determination to deepen engagement with traditional leaders to foster grassroots development. He stated that collaboration with local leadership remains a cornerstone of the UPND administration’s development strategy.

In her remarks, Isoka MP Marjorie Nakaponda praised President Hichilema’s administration for prioritizing education in the district, citing the construction of the Michael Chilufya Sata Girls Secondary School as a key milestone. She also urged the government to urgently address ongoing water supply challenges that continue to affect various communities within Isoka.

The Chizumba Nsonje Traditional Ceremony remains one of Isoka’s most cherished cultural events, bringing people together to celebrate their shared heritage, unity, and aspirations for national progress.
