Zambia and South Africa faced off in the 2025 COSAFA U-20 Championship men’s tournament. The COSAFA U-20 Championship continued on its second day on Saturday in Namibia, featuring thrilling matches, especially between the strong teams of South Africa and Zambia in both the women’s and men’s tournaments. In the men’s game, Zambia and South Africa’s Amajita ended in a dramatic 3-3 tie.
Neo Bohloko gave Amajita a great start with a goal in the 6th minute, but Zambia quickly responded with a goal from Gabriel Phiri, assisted by Billy Daka.
South Africa’s talented 16-year-old playmaker, Emile Witbooi, showcased his skills in the 17th minute, weaving through defenders to score and put his team ahead again.
However, Zambia struck back with two goals before halftime, taking an unexpected lead. Khayalethu Mzimela managed to equalize for South Africa by scoring from a corner kick in the 80th minute.
Earlier in the day, Botswana won against Eswatini 3-1, securing first place in their group. The Zebras started strong, scoring in the 15th minute and adding another goal in the second half, while they defended well against a late push to earn all three points. They will play against South Africa next on Monday, while Zambia will face Eswatini.
While Zambia and South Africa drew in the men’s match on Saturday, Zambia triumphed in the women’s game with a 3-0 win. In another match from the same group, Angola beat Eswatini 4-2, placing them alongside Zambia at the top of the table after one game.
