Boxer David Mwale has been named the World Boxing Council (WBC) International Bantamweight Champion.
Mwale beat Ghanaian boxer Michael Decardi Nelson by unanimous decision to claim the Bantamweight Champion title, making him the first male boxer from Zambia to achieve this honor.
The judges’ scores showed that Mwale clearly outperformed his opponent in the 12-round match.
After 12 rounds, the first judge scored the fight 119–108 in favor of Mwale, while the second and third judges both gave him a score of 118–108, confirming his win by unanimous decision.
In an interview with zednet Sports News after his victory, Mwale said that winning was like a dream come true.
He mentioned that it had always been his goal since he was a kid to become a world champion.
After the fight, Nelson claimed he was cheated and has asked for a review of the judges’ decision.
The Ghanaian boxer has also requested a rematch to fight for the title again.
