Dr. Munyumbwe clarify Regarding Cattle Donation at Dorcas Rally in Monze
Dr. Vanny Munyumbwe, the President of the Southern Zambia Union Conference, has clarified recent media reports that suggest he declined a cattle donation from a church member during the Dorcas Rally at Rusangu Mission in Monze District.
In his clarification, Dr. Munyumbwe shared that the church member expressed a desire to donate both cattle and monetary contributions during the official opening of the rally on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, which was attended by Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.
After receiving the donation offer, Dr. Munyumbwe consulted with fellow church leaders, who recommended that the donation be publicly recognized in a manner similar to the President’s contributions. However, when he returned to communicate this decision to the donor, the conversation unfortunately took an unexpected turn, resulting in the use of inappropriate language.
“The church welcomes donations from all willing individuals,” Dr. Munyumbwe affirmed, highlighting the established procedures designed to ensure transparency and order during such significant events.
He also addressed and refuted claims suggesting that President Hichilema shows favoritism towards the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Dr. Munyumbwe characterized these claims as unfounded, emphasizing that the Head of State has continually supported various churches, including a recent donation of over 100 cattle to the Catholic Church at Chikuni Mission in Southern Province.
Speaking to the congregation of over 35,000 at Rusangu Mission, Dr. Munyumbwe reiterated the church’s non-partisan approach, encouraging members to exercise their political rights independently.
“The church does not have the authority to direct members on how or whom to vote for,” he stated, noting that Adventist members engaged in politics should avoid intertwining their political activities with church matters.
This statement follows the circulation of allegations on social media claiming that Dr. Munyumbwe rejected a cattle donation from Elder Greyford Monde Monde, who reportedly attended the rally while traveling from Livingstone.
