ECZ Urges Candidates Not to Resign After Nomination

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has called Aspiring candidates for the upcoming Mang’unza Ward by-election have been urged not to resign after they submit their nominations.

They were warned that doing so can mess up the electoral process and waste public resources.

ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said resignation of a candidate after being duly nominated is undesirable, and should not occur, as it is not only a drawback to the Commission, but to other candidates, political parties and interested parties such as voters and members of the public.

“Further, resignations following a nomination can be a waste of resources and a disruption in the electoral process.

Therefore, the Commission would like to appeal to all of you aspiring candidates to take your participation seriously in the electoral process and familiarise yourselves with the provisions of Electoral Regulations to get a firm understanding of the nomination process and requirements thereof.” She added.

Mrs Zaloumis was speaking during a briefing with aspiring candidates and election agents in Mang’unza ward of Choma district ahead of nominations scheduled for Tuesday,10th of June 2025.

The Chairperson further called for peaceful, orderly and responsible conduct among the aspiring candidates, political parties, their supporters during and after the nominations on Tuesday, 10th June, 2025.

The polls will take place on Thursday,10th of July 2025 in Mbabala constituency of Choma district.the by-election in the ward arose due to the tragic death of former Independent Councillor, Mr. Chiyumu Miyoba
