The Zambia Police Service is providing an update to the public regarding the riot that occurred on April 3, 2025, around 07:20 AM at Chiwempala Police Station in Chingola District.
The incident involved a group of angry citizens and illegal miners who participated in violent behavior, resulting in the looting of property belonging to innocent community members.
Thanks to prompt police action, 76 individuals were arrested. After careful evaluation, 49 of these suspects were charged with Conduct Likely to Cause a Breach of Peace and have since paid their fines for admission of guilt.
The remaining 27 suspects, which include two individuals currently receiving treatment at Nchanga North General Hospital, have been charged with the following offenses:
- Riotous Behavior
- Malicious Damage to Government Property, specifically Motor Vehicle ZP 2762 B
- Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony
These suspects will face the courts soon.
The Zambia Police Service firmly denounces all forms of lawlessness and warns the public against participating in any riotous or criminal activities. The police are committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in violence and disorder are held accountable.
