Former Arsenal player Thomas Partey faces five charges of rape and one charge of sexual assault.
According to the Metropolitan Police, these incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
The allegations involve three women: two counts of rape are related to one woman, three counts of rape are connected to another woman, and one count of sexual assault involves a third woman.
His lawyer stated that the Ghanaian international denies the allegations and is eager to clear his name.
The charges come after an investigation by detectives that began in February 2022 when police first received a report of rape.
The 32-year-old’s contract with Arsenal ended on Monday after he had been with the team since 2020.
An Arsenal spokesperson mentioned, “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal matters, the club cannot comment on the situation.”
The Football Association and the Premier League have also chosen not to comment.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is in charge of the investigation, stated, “Our main focus is to support the women who have come forward.”
He encouraged anyone affected by this case or anyone with information to reach out to their team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk.
Mr. Partey, who lives in Hertfordshire, is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
In a statement, his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said, “Thomas Partey denies all the allegations against him.”
“He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS during their three-year investigation.”
“He is now looking forward to the chance to clear his name.”
“Since there are ongoing legal proceedings, my client cannot comment further.”
Mr. Partey transferred to Arsenal for £45.3 million from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 and played 35 top-flight matches last season.
