FRA to Start Buying Maize in Southern Province

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has announced that it will begin purchasing maize from farmers in the southern region of the country starting tomorrow, June 29, 2025.

FRA Executive Director Justin Chunka mentioned that there will be a one-week delay for the northern region due to the high moisture levels in the grain.

Mr. Chunka explained that the Agency is having trouble starting the actual buying of maize from farmers because of the moisture content being too high.

He stated that FRA officers are still checking the moisture levels in different maize fields in northern Zambia.

In an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. Chunka said that the Agency has increased its storage capacity to one million metric tons, up from 700,000 metric tons.

He also mentioned that the storage facilities have been cleaned and disinfected to prepare for the new stock.
