Frank mutubila urges young couples to cherish gentleness over pride

Frank Mutubila, a well-known broadcaster and former Zambian ambassador to Italy, has encouraged young couples to focus on gentleness, humility, and good communication in their marriages. He warned them not to follow his own path, which was filled with failed relationships.

At the wedding reception of Bwembya Kafita and Dolly Kanonkela in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Mutubila shared his personal experiences with marriage, openly discussing the lessons he learned from two unsuccessful unions.

“I have been married twice and both marriages ended. Not quickly, but gradually. Through silence. Through pride. Through the silly idea that love could wait while I pursued other things,” Mr. Mutubila said, moving the guests emotionally.

He revealed that he got married for the first time at 22, and that marriage ended in what he called a peaceful divorce, but it still brought pain.

“She stayed in England for our son. I came back home. Just because there was peace doesn’t mean there wasn’t pain,” he said, expressing regret over the years lost with his now 50-year-old son. “There are years I can’t remember in his life because I wasn’t there. And there are years of mine he doesn’t know because I never let him in.”

Mr. Mutubila also mentioned that his second marriage was more complicated, admitting it was more about physical attraction than truly understanding his partner. “I married her for her looks and glamour, not for who she really was,” he explained.

In conclusion, the former diplomat urged the newlyweds and other young couples to take care of their relationships with patience and honesty, stressing that love needs daily effort.
