Government has no Intention of delay ACL’s funeral or burial -VP Nalumango
The government has no intention of delaying the funeral or burial of the late sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, according to Vice President Mutale Nalumango.
Vice President Nalumango stated that the government is committed to ensuring that he is laid to rest with dignity in Zambia.
She made these comments in Parliament during the Vice President’s question and answer session, addressing public concerns regarding a legal petition filed by Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha in a South African court.
The petition aims to prevent Mr. Lungu’s burial in South Africa, which has temporarily halted the burial process.
She clarified that the issue was brought to the courts after the government and the Lungu family could not reach an agreement on burial arrangements.
However, she emphasized that the government’s stance is clear: President Lungu must be buried on Zambian soil, honoring his service and stature.
Mrs. Nalumango remarked that the state is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the late president receives a dignified and fitting burial, noting that he was not an ordinary citizen, as he led the nation.
Her comments were in response to a question from Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa, who asked why the government seemed to be delaying the funeral process.
