Government Signs K1.3 Billion Road Rehabilitation Contracts to Boost Connectivity
The Zambian government has signed two major road rehabilitation and upgrading contracts worth over K1.3 billion with China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) as part of efforts to enhance national infrastructure and improve connectivity.
Infrastructure and Urban Development Minister Charles Milupi confirmed that the contracts include:
- Rehabilitation of the D387 Road in Chikankata District – valued at over K369 million
- Upgrading of the Samfya–Kasaba Road (80 km) – costing more than K937 million
In addition, the agreements cover the construction of five kilometres of township roads in both Chikankata and Samfya, bringing modern road networks to communities that have long struggled with deteriorating infrastructure.
Chikankata Member of Parliament Jacqueline Sabao described the development as timely and long overdue, stressing that the D387 Road has been in a poor state for many years. She emphasised that the project will boost agricultural trade and improve the movement of goods and services within the district.
Meanwhile, Livestock and Fisheries Minister Peter Kapala expressed confidence that the projects will be delivered within the agreed timeline, noting that improved roads are essential for the advancement of the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
CCECC Director Manager Jacques Liao assured the government of the company’s commitment to executing high-quality, standard-compliant works that meet all engineering and safety expectations.
The road projects are expected to provide a significant boost to local economic development, regional connectivity, and transport efficiency, while supporting Zambia’s broader infrastructure development agenda.
