Hamoonga and Chuuba Reach Out-of-Court Settlement in Fraud Case

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga and Lusaka businessman Cryford Chuuba, who is accused of defrauding Hamoonga of over K100,000, have opted for an out-of-court settlement.

This development was revealed before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, where trial proceedings were initially set to begin.

During the session, Public Prosecutor Brian Sianyengo informed Lusaka Resident Magistrate Amy Masoja that the matter could not proceed, as both parties had mutually agreed to resolve the issue outside the court process.

Sianyengo further submitted that the prosecution had advised Hamoonga to submit a formal request to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Gilbert Phiri, seeking permission to withdraw the case.

Magistrate Masoja has since adjourned the matter to August 20, 2025, to await the DPP’s official decision regarding the proposed out-of-court resolution.

The case involves allegations that Chuuba fraudulently obtained K159,550 from Hamoonga between December 3 and 8, 2024. Chuuba allegedly claimed he had more than 70 cows for sale — claims later discovered to be false.
