HH to Commission $100M Chisamba Solar Plant
President Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to commission the 100-megawatt Chisamba Solar Power Plant in Central Province on Monday.
The $100 million Chisamba Solar PV Plant is part of the initiative to achieve a 1,000MW solar onboarding target, which aims to diversify the national electricity mix and enhance electricity security.
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote emphasizes that the commissioning of the Chisamba Solar Plant by President Hichilema reflects the government’s strong commitment to promoting renewable energy and improving energy security for all Zambians.
Mr. Chikote highlights that this event represents a significant advancement in the country’s energy agenda.
He notes that the solar plant will diversify Zambia’s energy mix and facilitate the transition towards clean, reliable, and sustainable power generation.
The Minister also points out that the plant will contribute to economic growth by improving power availability.

Additionally, ZESCO’s Department for Corporate Affairs states that the plant is expected to produce clean electricity for 30,000 to 50,000 Zambian homes each year.
According to a statement released to ZNBC, the introduction of the solar plant will aid sustainable development and is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 120,000 tonnes annually.
