On Wednesday evening, residents of Langa took to the streets to demand justice for a 15-year-old girl with intellectual disabilities who was raped for the second time last week Thursday.
The heartbroken grandmother of the victim shared that two men from the same apartment complex were involved in the assaults. She revealed that the first incident occurred on August 27, 2024, and that man is currently in jail. The second attack happened on March 27, 2025.
The grandmother recounted, “This man was outside the building where he lives when my granddaughter was on her way to her aunt’s house. He called her over and asked her to buy a cold drink. When she returned, he took her inside, locked the door, and raped her.”
She continued, “I know this man because he was present at a meeting we held after the first incident last year, yet he still chose to commit this crime again. Our family is struggling to cope with this tragedy. It’s heartbreaking to see my granddaughter being exploited because of her disability.”
The grandmother added, “She is extremely traumatized; she has started wetting and soiling herself and is constantly sleeping.”
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that a 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rape. He stated, “The details of this case are currently under investigation. Reports indicate that the victim left her home in Langa around 1:30 PM on March 27, 2025. When she returned, her family noticed she was missing. Upon finding her, they had concerns, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for medical care. We can confirm that a 38-year-old man has been arrested for rape.”
