Love, Forgiveness, and Renewal: Inmate Preacher Michael Mwiya Delivers Powerful Message at Mwembeshi Correctional Facility

MWEMBESHI, ZAMBIA –  A wave of inspiration swept through Mwembeshi Correctional Facility as inmate preacher Michael Mwiya delivered a moving sermon on love, forgiveness, and renewal during the 2025 International Day of Prayer and Action for Inmates.

Mwiya, a passionate believer and graduate of a theological training program offered within Zambia’s correctional system, spoke to fellow inmates with conviction and hope. His central message: transformation is possible, even behind bars.

“Love is the greatest force on Earth,” Mwiya declared. “Forgiveness sets us free, and renewal restores our spirit.

His powerful words served as both a spiritual awakening and a call to action. Encouraging inmates to use their incarceration as an opportunity for self-reflection, Mwiya urged his peers to embrace change and seek personal growth.

“Use this time wisely,” he said. “Let this period be one of change, where we emerge as better individuals—transformed by the light of love.”

Throughout his sermon, Mwiya emphasized the redemptive power of divine and human love in overcoming life’s challenges. He reminded the audience that God’s grace offers second chances, and human compassion helps rebuild broken lives.

“God’s grace is infinite,” he affirmed. “We must never lose faith in His ability to give us a second chance. But it is also the love we share with one another that brings about true renewal.”

Inmate Preacher Calls for Support and Compassion Toward Offenders

In a heartfelt appeal, Mwiya highlighted the need for empathy and understanding toward incarcerated individuals, especially young offenders. He called on society to invest in rehabilitation rather than punishment, noting the potential within every inmate to make meaningful contributions.

“Our young offenders are our future,” he said. “With proper guidance and God’s grace, they can turn their lives around and become positive forces in society.”

Mwiya’s message extended beyond prison walls, urging families, communities, and the broader public to embrace inmates with compassion rather than condemnation.

“Don’t rebuke us,” he implored. “Instead, offer your support and understanding during this difficult time.”

A Beacon of Hope Within Zambia’s Correctional System

Michael Mwiya’s journey from inmate to preacher is a testament to the transformative power of faith and education. His leadership within Mwembeshi Correctional Facility continues to inspire both inmates and officials alike.

Acting Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Collins Nzovu, who was present at the event, praised Mwiya for his courage and uplifting message. He noted that such examples of personal transformation are key to the success of Zambia’s ongoing efforts to humanize its correctional system.

Mwiya’s sermon left a lasting impression, reinforcing the idea that correctional facilities can be places of healing, spiritual renewal, and personal growths.
