Lower fuel prices to help with living costs and boost UPND support.

Mark Simuuwe, the Media Director for the United Party for National Development (UPND), says that the recent drop in fuel prices is likely to lead to a wider decrease in the prices of goods and services throughout the country.

During a press conference in Lusaka, Mr. Simuuwe mentioned that the reduced fuel prices would greatly lower production and transportation costs, which will ultimately help everyday Zambians.

“Zambians can look forward to lower prices for goods and services, as the drop in fuel prices will probably result in cheaper prices,” he stated.

He also expressed hope that this change would lead to lower bus fares. Mr. Simuuwe shared that the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) is set to meet with the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia to discuss the next steps.

In other news, Mr. Simuuwe mentioned that he is talking to his legal team about comments made by State Counsel John Sangwa during a recent public event. Mr. Sangwa jokingly said he couldn’t remember Mr. Simuuwe being in his class at the University of Zambia. When reminded, Mr. Sangwa replied, “I blame it on age; I can take advantage of age.”

However, Mr. Simuuwe said he takes these comments seriously, pointing out that such public statements could harm his professional reputation both at home and abroad.

On the political side, Mr. Simuuwe praised the UPND’s strong win in the Lumezi Constituency by-election, crediting it to the party’s increasing support from the grassroots level.

“The fact that UPND won the by-election by a large margin shows that we will win the 2026 general elections,” he declared, adding that this result indicates that no opposition party currently poses a real threat to the ruling party.
