Mozambique gives Land to Zambia for Nacala dry port
Mozambique has officially given Zambia land to set up a dry port in the important port city of Nacala. This decision is meant to boost trade and improve logistics in the region.
The news was shared by Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Joao Matlombe, at the Global Transport Connectivity Forum 2025, which took place at the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkey.
Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, praised this action, calling it a big step in strengthening the relationship between the two countries and making it cheaper for Zambian businesses to import and export goods.
Mr. Tayali mentioned that Zambia will start using the Nacala dry port through ZAMCARGO, a government-run logistics company that already operates similar facilities in Namibia and Tanzania.
He also said that the government is working with development partners, including the World Bank, to help with a feasibility study for the Chipata–Serenje Railway Project. This project is important because it will connect with the Chipata–Mchinji line in Malawi and eventually link to the Nacala corridor on the Indian Ocean.
To show their commitment, Mr. Matlombe has told his technical team to work quickly with their Zambian counterparts to make sure the project is formalized without delay. He also confirmed that the land given in Nacala will be officially titled to prevent any future disputes over ownership or issues with operations.
The Nacala port, known for its deep-water access and efficiency, is expected to give Zambia a shorter and more affordable trade route to global markets.
