The Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, has instructed officers in the Department of National Registration to work harder on the mobile issuance of National Registration Cards (NRCs) before the program ends in the first week of July.
While visiting Kalulushi, Mr. Mwiimbu emphasized that the government is dedicated to making sure that as many eligible citizens as possible get their NRCs in the remaining days of the program.
He recognized the challenges faced during this process but promised that solutions are being implemented to address them. So far, more than 13,000 people in Kalulushi have received their NRCs through the ongoing mobile program.
The Minister also instructed that elderly citizens should not be refused service and should receive the help they need to obtain their NRCs. He pointed out that not having this important document has made it difficult for many senior citizens to access essential government services.
Mr. Mwiimbu was in Kalulushi for a church service at New Covenant Church and to support the UPND candidate running in the Nangweshi local government by-election.
In other news, Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo announced that communities affected by the pollution of the Kafue River will receive longer compensation.
Mr. Matambo revealed that the compensation plan has been extended to cover three years instead of the originally suggested one year, thanks to efforts by a group of Cabinet ministers.
He reiterated the government’s promise to provide justice and support to the affected residents, adding that more compensation measures have been agreed upon.
In his speech, New Covenant Church Apostle Edward Masitaki urged citizens to maintain respect for leadership and national institutions.
