The death toll from a significant earthquake in Myanmar has surpassed 3,300, prompting the United Nations aid chief to reiterate the urgent need for global assistance for the affected nation.
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake, which struck the Southeast Asian country on March 28, has resulted in 3,354 fatalities, 4,508 injuries, and 220 individuals reported missing, as per the latest statistics released by state media on Saturday.
The UN’s leading aid official visited survivors in Mandalay, a city in central Myanmar near the earthquake’s epicenter, which is currently facing extensive damage. He characterized the devastation as a condition that has been met with “courage, skill, and determination” by those responding to the crisis.
“Many have lost everything themselves, yet they continue to reach out to assist other survivors,” Fletcher remarked.
