Naked Woman’s Body Discovered in Kalingalinga Yard in Suspected Murder Case
A suspected murder case has rocked Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Compound after police discovered the naked body of a woman in a residential yard early Tuesday morning.
According to a statement by Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the body was found around 05:00 hours and reported by a local resident, Mervis Chinsungwe, aged 55. She discovered the body lying in the unfenced yard of her home and promptly alerted police at approximately 05:30 hours.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the deceased adult female naked and already in a state of rigor mortis. Visible bruising and hematomas around the neck have led investigators to suspect strangulation as the possible cause of death.
Near the scene, police recovered key pieces of evidence, including torn underwear—found in two separate pieces—and a torn t-shirt located about a meter away from the body.
Interestingly, despite the yard’s sandy and loosely packed soil, no clear signs of a struggle were found. Residents of the house reported hearing no unusual noises during the night.
Following police interviews and community engagement, the deceased was identified as 31-year-old Nalishebo Sikundu, a known resident of Kalingalinga. Her identity was confirmed by her aunt, Annie Lungu, aged 53, who disclosed that Nalishebo had recently moved out of her home to live independently.
The body has since been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have opened an inquiry file, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are appealing to members of the public who may have information related to the incident to come forward and assist.
The Zambia Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice in this tragic case and is urging the community to remain calm and vigilante.
