OVER 300 PEOPLE SWITCH TO UPND IN MATERO
More than 300 members from the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) and other political groups in Matero Constituency have joined the United Party for National Development (UPND), praising the government’s focus on development and community-centered policies.
Clement Mulenga led the defections, sharing his choice to join UPND and emphasizing the positive effects of the government’s free education policy, the cash-for-work program, and social cash transfer initiatives.
Mr. Mulenga mentioned that these programs are making real differences in communities, especially for those in need.
“I have witnessed real improvements in the lives of everyday people. The free education policy has given hope to many families, and the CDF projects are changing our neighborhoods. That’s why I decided to support UPND,” Mr. Mulenga stated.
The new members were officially welcomed at a ceremony at the UPND Anderson Kambela Mazoka Party Secretariat in Lusaka.
UPND Media Director Mark Simuuwe, who welcomed the newcomers, said this move shows the party’s increasing popularity and influence among the people.
“These defections show that the UPND’s message of development and inclusion is connecting with the public. We are seeing the benefits of policies that address people’s everyday problems,” Mr. Simuuwe explained.
Mr. Simuuwe was accompanied by senior party officials, including UPND Lusaka Provincial Chairperson Angela Muuka, Vice Chairperson Chishala Kabaso, and district and Constituency leaders Ndabila Mwiinga, Doris Bwalya, Regina Phiri, and Judith Banda.
Since taking office, the UPND government has focused on community development by increasing Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations and improving access to education and social protection services.
