President Hakainde Hichilema expressed his sorrow over the death of former Finance Minister Edith Zewelani Nawakwi. In a condolence message shared on his Facebook, he mentioned that his thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Nawakwi’s family.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, the FDD community, friends, and the entire nation. We are thinking of you during this tough time,” he stated.
Additionally, many others have shared their condolences for Zambia’s first female Minister of Finance and National Planning, who also led the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD).
Vice-President Mutale Nalumango also reached out to Ms. Nawakwi’s family after the passing of the 66-year-old economist and farmer.
“My heart goes out to you during this hard time. What a difficult way to start the week. I was deeply saddened to hear about my dear sister, Edith Nawakwi.
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies. I am truly sorry for your loss, Nawakwi family. My thoughts are with you,” Mrs. Nalumango posted on Facebook.
Moreover, MMD New Hope president Dr. Nevers Mumba shared his shock upon learning of Ms. Nawakwi’s death.
“WE’VE LOST EDITH. This is a heartbreaking day for Zambia. What a dreadful Monday morning! We spoke just a few weeks ago, and she reassured me that she was receiving the care she needed and that her family was close by. This is such a significant loss. I am at a loss for words,” Dr. Mumba wrote on his Facebook page.
