SEEDCO Donates Bicycles to Enhance Agricultural Outreach in North-Western Zambia

Solwezi, Zambia – SEEDCO has donated ten bicycles to lead farmers in North-Western Province as part of efforts to improve mobility and boost the effectiveness of agricultural extension services in the region.

The donation, which targets lead farmers in two districts, is aimed at helping overcome transportation challenges that often hinder effective outreach and knowledge transfer to fellow farmers.

Speaking during the official launch of the Lead Farmer Model in Solwezi, North-Western Provincial Agricultural Coordinator Muyobo Shimabale commended SEEDCO for its support in strengthening community-based agricultural extension. He emphasized that the bicycles would enable lead farmers to reach more households and share vital farming techniques, ultimately enhancing productivity and sustainability in rural communities.

“These bicycles should not be viewed as mere donations, but as essential tools that will help advance agricultural knowledge and improve farming practices across the province,” Mr. Shimabale said.

The Lead Farmer Model, supported by SEEDCO, is a capacity-building initiative that promotes peer-to-peer learning among farmers. Through this model, lead farmers are trained in modern agronomic practices and tasked with passing on the knowledge to other farmers within their localities.

SEEDCO’s North-Western Regional Sales Agronomist Augustine Musonda highlighted that the initiative is focused on equipping farmers with practical and research-based techniques to increase crop yields and ensure long-term food security.

“The Lead Farmer Model is designed to empower communities through shared learning. With improved mobility, these lead farmers will now be able to provide regular guidance and support to others, especially in remote areas,” Mr. Musonda stated.

The initiative underscores SEEDCO’s commitment to supporting sustainable agriculture and community development through strategic partnerships and farmer empowerment.
