The ERB mainten electricity rates for ZESCO going until July 2025

This means that from May 1 to July 31, 2025, the rates will stay the same.

James Banda, the chairperson of the ERB, said that they are doing this because there are still problems with generating electricity, mostly because the water levels in the big reservoirs are low.

He mentioned that the reasons for starting these emergency rates, like the long drought affecting Southern Africa, haven’t changed, so they need to keep these measures in place. The emergency rates were first approved in October 2024 after talking to the public, and they will be looked at every three months.

This extension is to help make sure there is enough power supply even though generating capacity is limited.
