The Socialist Party says they are not trying to take over the Tonse Alliance
Recently, an audio recording has caused a lot of buzz, where some Socialist Party leaders seem to be talking about ways to weaken the Tonse Alliance and challenge its leader, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
In response, Sean E. Tembo, the spokesperson for the Tonse Alliance, expressed serious worries about what was said in the recording.
It supposedly features Ms. Akende M’membe and Mr. Kelvin Kaunda making negative remarks about Dr. Lungu’s health treatment and discussing issues within the Alliance.
To look into these claims, Tembo announced a special committee to investigate, following the rules of the Tonse Alliance.
They are also talking to PF Acting President Hon. Given Lubinda about some recent meetings that were not approved.
Meanwhile, the Socialist Party quickly dismissed the audio as “cheap propaganda” meant to create division among opposition groups.
Deputy General Secretary Maximo Mutambo firmly denied any plans by Dr. Fred M’membe to conspire against the Alliance, saying that this is part of a bigger plan by the ruling UPND to stop opposition groups from working together. “
This attempt to split us is clear,” Mutambo said. “Since Dr. Fred M’membe has been trying to work with other leaders and community groups, some people have started to spread lies.”
