UN judge jailed for keeping housekeeper as slave
She has been sentenced to over six years in prison. Mugambe, 50, took advantage of her position and forced the Ugandan woman to be her maid and take care of her children, preventing her from getting a real job.
After being arrested under the Modern Slavery Act, Mugambe was shocked to learn about the charges against her. The victim, who will remain anonymous, shared that she felt unimportant and unhappy, as she was not allowed to speak freely or work.
In February 2023, police arrested Mugambe after they received reports about the situation.
In March 2025, she was found guilty of multiple offenses related to modern slavery and immigration law.
