UPND PROMISES PEACEFUL CAMPAIGNS FOR LUMEZI BY-ELECTIONS
The Chairperson for Elections of the United Party for National Development (UPND), Garry Nkombo, has said that the process of choosing a candidate for the Lumezi parliamentary by-election is tough and complicated because so many people want to run for the ruling party.
During a press conference, Nkombo shared that the UPND has officially chosen Lufayo Ngoma as their candidate for the Lumezi seat, showing confidence that the party will win.
He mentioned that out of 14 candidates, only seven were selected, and he praised all of them for their skills and strong backgrounds.
“I have to say that all 14 candidates who were narrowed down to seven were really good in terms of their abilities. This made picking a candidate especially hard and unique in our party’s history,” Nkombo said.
He also confirmed that the party is dedicated to running peaceful campaigns according to the rules of the election. Nkombo highlighted how important it is for everyone involved—including opposition parties, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), and the police—to work together to make sure the election process is peaceful and fair.
The Lumezi by-election comes after a vacancy was announced in the area, with campaigns likely to heat up in the next few weeks.
