Victor cheelo sparks a change in Monze central through Youth Empowerment
A wave of excitement filled Chisekesi Ward yesterday as Victor Cheelo, who wants to be a Member of Parliament, got a warm welcome during the big finish of the Victor Cheelo Ward Tournament, showing that his 2026 parliamentary dreams are gaining support.
Hundreds of excited residents came together on the dusty field, shouting “Cheelo! Mwana Mupale!” as the 31-year-old economist and rancher showed up to see the sports finals and connect with the community.
The Chisekesi tournament is part of a larger K78,000 project led by Mr. Cheelo, which aims to reach all 12 wards of Monze Central. This program uses football and netball to engage youth and build community, with the goals of encouraging healthy lifestyles and promoting social unity.
After the event, Mr. Cheelo talked to GroundTruth Zambia and highlighted how powerful sports can be. “This is about more than just fun. It’s about giving our young people a reason to avoid drugs, alcohol, and early pregnancies. Sports create unity, discipline, and a sense of purpose,” he explained.
The young UPND candidate is not just focused on football. He has also backed youth boxing programs, given a community vehicle for local use, and supported farming strategies to help make Monze a successful beef-processing and farming center.
Cheelo, who wants to be a fresh choice for Monze Central, has announced his plan to run for the seat currently held by Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, who has been the MP for 25 years.
As the 2026 elections get closer, Cheelo’s rising popularity, community involvement, and focus on empowering youth indicate that change might really be on the way in Monze Central.
