In a big move to enhance Zambia’s research and innovation scene, Mulungushi University has opened the Zambia Belt and Road Innovation Cooperation Centre (ZBRICC) at its main campus in Kapiri Mposhi, Central Province.

This centre is the result of a strategic partnership between Mulungushi University and the Belt and Road Institute of Science and Technology (BRIST) from China. ZBRICC is expected to be very important in promoting innovation, research, and the development of technical skills in Zambia.

During the launch, Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima praised the initiative, calling it timely and in line with Zambia’s development goals. He stressed how powerful education can be in shaping the country’s economic and social future.

The new centre is set up to help carry out Zambia’s 8th National Development Plan, especially in areas related to science, technology, and vocational training.

ZBRICC will concentrate on building skills in entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence (AI), engineering, agriculture, health, and other important sectors of the economy. It also aims to connect academic knowledge with practical skills, preparing graduates for real-world challenges.

Mulungushi University Vice Chancellor Professor Royson Mukwena mentioned that this partnership would help create a more inclusive, innovative, and strong education system in Zambia.

Co-Director Andy Lui also pointed out how important it is to include hands-on training in AI, engineering, and vocational fields to make sure that what students learn in school matches what employers need in the job market.
