The Zambia Defence Women’s Rugby Team has achieved a historic milestone by securing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 International Defence Rugby Competition (IDRC), currently underway in the United Kingdom.
Despite missing their opening fixture against Ireland due to logistical challenges, the team bounced back in style with an emphatic 90–0 victory over Tonga. In their third-round clash, they showed immense strength and determination, narrowly losing 32–22 to hosts United Kingdom in a thrilling encounter.
Their spirited performances earned them third place in the group, setting up a crucial semi-final showdown against Vodafone Looseheadz on Thursday. The Zambian squad remains focused on their ultimate goal—reaching the grand final.
Head coach Richard Kapoma expressed confidence in his players, stating that the narrow defeat to the UK has only fueled their hunger and determination to go further in the competition.
In a strong show of support, Zambia’s High Commissioner to the UK, Macenje Mazoka, led embassy staff in cheering on the team, underscoring the significance of this achievement on both sporting and diplomatic fronts.
