Zambia is set to improve its relationship with the USA.

President Hakainde Hichilema mentioned that Zambia is prepared to enhance its ties with the USA, especially with the changes in the foreign policy of that country.

He stated that Zambia aims to take advantage of the changes made by the Donald Trump administration to strengthen the partnership between the US and Zambia.

Although the US government has made some tough decisions, like cutting aid, President Hichilema believes this is a wake-up call for Zambia.

He shared these thoughts during a meeting with the US Ambassador to Zambia, Michael Gonzales, at State House today.

President Hichilema also urged for a quicker increase in US investments in Zambia’s important sectors, particularly through joint ventures.

He expressed optimism that as the government works on rebuilding the mining sector, Zambia will produce nearly a million metric tonnes of copper this year.

This increase is attributed to higher production levels and the reopening of previously closed mines.

Mr. Gonzales emphasized the importance of resetting Zambia-US relations to ensure both countries can benefit effectively.

He expressed his willingness to assist Zambia in transforming the partnership into one that promotes significant development for both nations.

In addition, Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe stated that Zambia is dedicated to strengthening its relationship with the USA through better and more effective communication.
