Zambia Secures $138 Million Funding for TRALARD II Climate Resilience Project

Zambia is set to receive USD 138 million from the World Bank and cooperating partners to implement the second phase of the Transforming Landscapes for Resilience and Development (TRALARD II) project, a major step forward in strengthening climate resilience and sustainable land use.

The five-year initiative, scheduled to begin in January 2026, will be implemented in 29 selected districts across the country. The project aims to enhance sustainable landscape management and build resilience among communities most vulnerable to environmental and climate-related challenges.

Speaking during a validation meeting in Southern Province, National Project Coordinator Titus Walima highlighted the significance of TRALARD II in improving the livelihoods of communities affected by climate risks. He stated that the initiative will help address key development gaps in areas hit hardest by climate change.

Southern Province Permanent Secretary Namani Monze confirmed the region’s validation of the project, noting that TRALARD II aligns with the province’s climate adaptation priorities. He emphasized that the project will have a direct impact on improving community resilience and promoting sustainable development at the grassroots level.

TRALARD II builds on the achievements of the first phase, expanding its reach to more districts and addressing the urgent need for long-term climate adaptation strategies.
