ZCSA Registers 39 Food Producers in 2025 to Strengthen Consumer Safety in Zambia

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has officially registered 39 food and beverage producers during the first half of 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote food safety and protect public health in Zambia.

The registered establishments span Lusaka, Central, Western, Eastern, and Southern Provinces and are involved in the production of key food items such as mealie meal, peanut butter, wheat flour, cooking oil, and fruit-flavored beverages.

ZCSA Communications and Public Relations Manager, Brian Hatyoka, confirmed the development, stating that the Agency recorded 20 new registrations in the first quarter and an additional 19 in the second quarter of 2025.

“This progress demonstrates our commitment to enforcing food safety regulations and ensuring that Zambians consume safe and quality-assured food products,” Hatyoka said.

He emphasized that registration under Zambia’s compulsory standards is a legal requirement for all manufacturers and suppliers whose products are intended for the local market. The ZCSA continues to work closely with producers to uphold health and safety benchmarks.

Hatyoka also urged consumers to remain vigilant by purchasing food and beverages only from certified and regulated sources. He warned that products from unregistered or suspicious outlets pose serious public health risks, including contamination and foodborne illnesses.

“Consumer awareness is key to reducing exposure to unsafe food products. We encourage all Zambians to check for registration and certification before purchasing,” he added.

The ZCSA’s registration initiative aligns with national food safety strategies and contributes to Zambia’s broader agenda of strengthening regulatory oversight across the food supply chain.
