ZESCO to reducing load shedding by August 2025 as water levels rise in Lake Kariba

During a press conference at the Kariba North Bank Power Station, Zesco Senior Manager Christopher Singogo mentioned that while they haven’t officially ended load shedding, they expect things to improve soon

The increase in water levels is due to seasonal rains and efforts to get power from other places. Although the situation is still tricky, they are optimistic about less load shedding by the third quarter of 2025.

ZESCO has been struggling because of low water levels caused by droughts and El Niño, which has limited their power generation. They have had to cut back on how much electricity they can produce at the Kariba North Bank Power Station.

In 2024, they only generated 214 MW, which is much lower than in previous years. But now, the Zambezi River Authority has increased Zambia’s water supply for 2025, which should help improve electricity generation as the water levels rise. Selusiwe Moyo from ZRA reminded everyone that saving water is really important.
