ZRA involves over 390 majorettes in a tax education program
The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has reached out to a special group—390 majorettes—during an event today at the Lusaka Showgrounds.
During the event, ZRA’s Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, mentioned that since the Authority sponsors the majorettes who entertain at the Agricultural and Commercial Show, it was important to educate these young participants—who are between 8 and 19 years old—about taxes.
Mr. Nzala pointed out that while many people, including students, have a basic idea about taxes, there are still big gaps in understanding what taxes are, where they come from, how they are used, and how they are managed.
To help fill this knowledge gap, Mr. Nzala explained that ZRA has been launching tax education campaigns across the country since 2023. These started with the Know Your Tax Quiz for university and college students and continued in 2024 with the Smart Voices Debate aimed at high school students.
He also mentioned that including young girls from different social and educational backgrounds shows the Authority’s dedication to creating a tax-aware generation from a young age.
“ZRA is using every possible way to promote tax knowledge. Our aim is to create a generation that understands and values paying taxes,” he stated.
Mr. Nzala also stressed that the Authority is using digital tools—like its official website, the Atingi e-learning platform, and social media—to spread tax information to young people more widely.
He added that a strong tax system is crucial for national growth, allowing the government to support important services like roads, education, healthcare, and public sector salaries.
“Our larger goal is to foster a culture of voluntary tax compliance, based on a clear understanding of both rights and responsibilities,” he concluded.
